American business firms have shown interest in hiring skilled overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were recently rescued by the Philippine government from Sudan, according to Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan Ople.

Ople stated that these companies are willing to look at the profiles of the OFWs, which include teachers, nurses, construction workers, and engineers, among others.

"They’re willing na tingnan ‘yung profiles nung mga galing Sudan kasi sabi ko these are skilled workers. Sabi ko, may international school na teachers may mga nurses, mayroon ding construction workers tsaka mga engineers. So sabi naman nila, they’re willing to look at the profiles," Ople said.

The DMW is currently preparing the profiles, which will be provided to interested US and Saudi Arabian employers.

"There are employers in the US and also in the cruise ship industry and in Saudi Arabia that are very much interested and would like to see profiles of our workers from Sudan," she added.

The DMW is also providing livelihood support and assistance to the OFWs, who have received US$200 each while staying in Egypt, along with a financial assistance package of Php50,000.

The DMW and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will provide another Php50,000 to the families of the workers.

As of now, some 536 Filipinos are being assisted in Cairo, Egypt, while 104 OFWs ate still in Argeen, Sudan, and are expected to arrive in Cairo.
