Several seafaring firms in the United States will hire 75,000 Filipino seafarers, Malacañang said on Wednesday.

In a press release, Presidential Communication Office (PCO) said this good news was announced by Carnival Corp. President and chief executive officer (CEO) John Padget during his meeting with President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.

"Padget, who also represents Carnival Cruise Line, Holland American Airlines, and Seaborn, praised Filipino workers for their hospitality and competitiveness in the global workforce," it said.

According to PCO, the seafaring industry executive said they welcome roles in the deck, hospitality, restaurant, and many more.

Meanwhile, it said that in the same meeting with US firms, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan 'Toots' Ople presented 200 Filipino employees who “adhere to fair and ethical standards and principles.”

PCO said the President then extended his gratitude to the US firms "for their continued confidence in Filipino professionals and skilled workers."

“When you say that the — the ladies and gentlemen that we have here today represent 200,000, you do not represent 200,000 employees, you represent 200,000 families and you represent 200,000 communities in the Philippines,” Marcos said as quoted by PCO.

Apart from Ople, the chief executive was joined by House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez, and Defense Officer-in-Charge Carlito Galvez Jr. in the meeting.
