Following the complaints of some lawmakers, the American distributors of the 2023 film "Plane" have "voluntarily pulled" the film from public showing in the Philippines.
This was disclosed by Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chairperson Lala Sotto-Antonio in an interview with the media.
"The particular film is not going to be exhibited because the distributor, as mentioned, voluntarily pulled out the materials from the cinemas. It will not be exhibited anymore," she told reporters.
The MTCRB received the letter of notice on February 21, she said.
Actor-turned-Senator Robinhood "Robin" first condemned the American film and appealed to the MTRCB to prohibit its public showing due to its supposed damage to the country's reputation.
Senate President Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri seconded Padilla, stating that the nation should stand as one to show that "this is not the real situation on the ground."
In the movie "Plane," a commercial pilot, portrayed by actor Gerald Butler, saved his flight passengers and crew from enraged Filipino insurgents after their plane crashed in Jolo, Sulu.
