The recently released world rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a United Kingdom-based organization have revealed that the University of the Philippines (UP) has emerged as the top-ranking university in the Philippines.
UP secured an impressive position at 404th place in the QS World University Rankings 2024, surpassing its previous rank of 412th in 2023.
The rankings were determined through an assessment of various metrics, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, sustainability, employment outcomes, and international research network.

Following UP, Ateneo de Manila University claimed the 563rd spot, while De La Salle University occupied the 681-690 bracket, and the University of Santo Tomas found itself in the 801-850 bracket.
Joining the top four institutions is the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, which attained a place within the 1201-1400 bracket.
In total, the QS evaluated 1,500 universities worldwide. The rankings drew upon the analysis of a staggering 17.5 million academic papers and the expert opinions of over 240,000 academic faculty and employers, as stated by the higher education information firm.
Notably, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States retained its position as the world's leading university according to the rankings. Meanwhile, the National University of Singapore emerged as the top-ranked institution in Asia, securing an impressive 8th place globally.
