During the flag raising ceremony on Monday, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, raised concern on the fake Facebook page that emerged, stating it can be a weaponized source of fake news.
Sotto also took his sentiment to his official Facebook page, posting a screenshot of the page's followers. It had already acquired 100,000 followers, adding that several of them are Vietnamese trolls. Although most of its posts are in support of the city government, Sotto emphasized that it can eventually be used to spread false information after gaining momentum.
He then urged the public to take precaution and verify the news circulating online. It is important that the public learn how to distinguish the data and source's credibility to know the truth.
Sotto added that there are people willing to lie and twist the truth for politics.
“Ang pinakamalakas na sandata ay katotohanan (the greatest weapon is the truth),” his post concluded.
