Former Drag Race Philippines (DRP) contestants became the talk of the town on social media over the weekend due to their glamorous but political outfits in the second edition of Vice Ganda’s UnkabogaBALL.

With this year’s theme “Philippine History”, Marina Summers, Eva Le Queen, and Vinas DeLuxe proved that Drag is not just making fashion statements but also socio-political statements.

Below are the three Drag Queen’s complete look with their backstories:

Marina Summers

DRP 1st runner-up Summers dressed up as former first lady Imelda Marcos in a white Filipinana gown but blood stains were evident at the back.

The outfit was designed by Filipino fashion designer Paul Sese.

In a Twitter post, Sese explained that the dress also has an attached speaker on the back that plays human crying sounds.

This, according to him, symbolizes the victims of the Martial law era during Marcos Sr.’s administration.

Summers bagged the “UnkabogaBALL Star of the Night” award.

“Our winning look for the #unkabogaball2022. This is the part of Philippine History that they are trying to conceal with glamour and misinformation. This is the story that should never be forgotten,” Summers wrote in a Facebook post.

Eva Le Queen

DRP finalists Eva Le Queen arrived at the ball with her “ABS-CBN shutdown” outfit — an all-black body fit with a big ABS-CBN logo as her headdress.

When asked about her inspiration, Le Queen said she wanted to make “an impact” and send a clear message about the media giant’s forced shutdown.

"For me, it's one of the things in history that we should never be forgotten. I've always believed na drag is political so this is a great platform. This is a chance to actually gather all queer icons and have this platform to celebrate the history, and also not forget the lessons of history,” she said.

Vinas DeLuxe

Meanwhile, Vinas DeLuxe’s outfit was inspired by the three Filipino Catholic martyrs namely, Gomez, Burgos, and Zamora (GomBurZa).

She wore a black outfit with two mannequin heads.
