The University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) announced the suspension of its three referees for three weeks.

The said referees officiated the triple-header of the UAAP Season 86 Men's Basketball Tournament last Wednesday, October 11, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The games include the match between Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles, and the University of the East Red Warriors.

During the game, to which the Eagles won 76-69, the defending champions earned 34 free throw attempts, while the Warriors only had four tries on the line.

In a letter to the Board of Managing Directors on Thursday, October 12, the UAAP Commissioner's Office said that the three referees failed in the referee game report card, a number-based evaluation of every game that the referees officiate.

The office of Commissioner Xavy Nunag also deemed the behavior, demeanor, actions, and the failure of the three game officials to enforce the rules of the game as a 'violation of the standards of conduct expected of referees' and 'disruptive to the integrity of the game'.

"We take the responsibility of providing competent and professional referees to the league very seriously, and it is essential that all officials mantain the highest level of integrity and accuracy," the letter read.

The letter also stated that the suspension will allow the referees to reflect on their actions and improve their performance.

The suspension also means that the referees cannot officiate any of the playoff matches, particularly the finals and semifinal games of the season.
