Typhoon Odette further intensifies, makes landfall over Siargao Island

Typhoon Odette has further intensified and has made landfall over Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte on Thursday afternoon, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its latest bulletin, the state weather bureau said Odette has made landfall over Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte at 1:30 PM today.

It is expected to make another landfall over Dinagat Islands on Thursday afternoon.

With this development, the following tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) has been raised across the country.

Typhoon Odette has a maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 240 km/h, and central pressure of 915 hPa. It is moving west northwestward at 30 km/h.

"'Odette' may see some slight weakening as it crosses northeastern Mindanao, Visayas, and Palawan, but it is forecast to remain as a typhoon," PAGASA said.
