Typhoon Chedeng intensifies as it moves away from PH landmass
by Ellicia Del Mundo10 June 2023

Typhoon Chedeng has intensified in the middle of the Philippine Sea as it is moving away from the country’s land mass, based on the latest weather advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued on Saturday morning.

PAGASA said the center of the eye of Typhoon Chedeng was last tracked 875 kilometers East of Northern Luzon as of 4 AM.

It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 185 km/h as it accelerates North northwestward.

Based on the state weather bureau’s forecast track, Chedeng will accelerate northward or north-northeastward today and may reach the sea southeast and east of the Ryukyu Islands on Sunday.

The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on the evening of Sunday or Monday early morning

“However, slight intensification in the near term (i.e., next 12 hours) is no longer ruled out. Nevertheless, the tropical cyclone will leave the PAR region as a typhoon category,” it said.

PAGASA said although Chedeng may not bring heavy rainfall over the country, the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or habagat will cause occasional rains over the western portions of Luzon and Visayas in the next three days and cause rough sea over the seaboards of Extreme Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of mainland Northern Luzon.

The enhanced habagat will also bring gusty conditions or severe winds over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, Zambales, Bataan, Camiguin, and Dinagat Islands today.
