United States President Donald Trump expressed his sadness over his predecessor's health condition.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Trump said he and First Lady Melania Trump were "saddened to hear about Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis."

"We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery," said the President.

Biden, 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, according to a statement from his office on Sunday.

He was diagnosed on Friday after experiencing urinary symptoms.

"On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone," Biden’s office said.

"While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management," it added.
