A tropical cyclone (TC) is forecast to develop south of the country from December 16 to 22, and enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to the state weather bureau.
The formation of a TC-like vortex (TCLV) is likely between the said dates, and head towards Visayas and Southern Luzon, reported the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in their TC-Threat Potential Forecast released on Monday, December 9.
“(A) TCLV will likely emerge over the southern part of the TCAD (Tropical Cyclone Advisory Domain) with a low to moderate likelihood of TC-development and is forecasted to enter the PAR and move towards the Visayas—Southern Luzon area,” the advisory read.
“Therefore, the TC-THREAT POTENTIAL IS LIKELY,” it concluded.
The next cyclone to enter PAR will be known as Querubin locally, the 17th to trouble the country in a single year. Six consecutive tropical cyclones battered the country from late October to November, devastating many areas.
