Former Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV on Tuesday denied allegations that he received $2 million from resigned Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co to fund an International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation or for any other purpose.
In a social media post, Trillanes described the accusation as an attempt to undermine his credibility and derail the ongoing ICC proceedings against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
“I vehemently deny that I received $2M or any amount from Zaldy Co for the ICC investigation or any other purpose,” Trillanes said in a statement.
He affirmed his intention to pursue legal action against the individuals spreading what he calls a “blatant lie,” emphasizing that he will continue to support the ICC process without interference.
“This is an attempt to discredit the ongoing ICC proceedings. I will be filing cyberlibel cases against Levi Baligod, Mike Defensor, Jay Sonza, the 18 ex-soldiers, and all those who are maliciously circulating this blatant lie," he said.
"This is not new to me. I will not be distracted. Hahabulin ko kayo,” the former senator added.
The allegations surfaced after 18 former Philippine Marines claimed that a secret operation, allegedly funded for ICC investigators, involved Trillanes and Co.
Trillanes maintains that these claims are entirely false.
