A tricycle driver lost his life after engaging in a shootout with members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) at an established checkpoint in Retiro corner Cordillera Street, QC.

The deceased suspect was identified as Christian Acebes, a 29-year-old resident of Barangay 550, Sampaloc, Manila, according to PLTCOL Romil Avenido, the Station Commander of PS 1.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred at around 12:30 AM on July 6, 2023, when PS 1 operatives were conducting a law enforcement checkpoint.

At that moment, Acebes, who's driving a tricycle, swiftly passed by the checkpoint. The police attempted to signal Acebes to stop, but instead of complying, he accelerated and initiated a brief pursuit.

During the chase, Acebes fired his gun, prompting the police officers to retaliate while trailing him along N.S. Amoranto towards Sto. Domingo, Quezon Avenue.

Eventually, the police managed to corner Acebes on Rosarito Street, Barangay 571, Sampaloc, Manila, where he sustained injuries.

He was swiftly transported to Sampaloc Hospital in Manila, but unfortunately, he was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician.
