As of 2:00 a.m., the Traslacion of Jesus Nazarene has entered its 22nd hour, with the procession continuing to experience significant delays along Arlegui Street in Quiapo. The andas left Quirino Grandstand at 3:58 a.m. on January 9 and has yet to reach Quiapo Church as dense crowds continue to slow its progress.
Earlier, at around 3:00 p.m., the andas began crossing Arlegui Street from Quezon Boulevard and remained in the area for nearly 30 minutes due to crowd congestion. The Quiapo Church Command Post reported that the combined crowd estimate from Ayala Boulevard and Quiapo had reached 645,200 at that time.
Near 5:00 p.m., a media organization’s crew cab sustained heavy damage to its windshield and roof after being trapped in the dense crowd along Arlegui Street. Authorities reminded both devotees and media personnel to exercise caution amid the tightly packed procession route.
The Manila Public Information Office (PIO) earlier said the andas was still at Arlegui Street corner Carcer Street as of 6:00 p.m. and remained there as of 6:30 p.m. At around 7:00 p.m., NCRPO spokesperson PMAJ. Hazel Asilo said crowd estimates had risen to approximately 783,200 individuals, with about 85,000 devotees already waiting inside and around Quiapo Church.
Authorities acknowledged that the original target duration of 15 hours would not be met, as the andas had yet to arrive at the church amid persistent crowd buildup.
