A transport group began its four-day protest against the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) and other transport issues on Monday, June 2.
RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort reported the same day that the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) began its four-day protest in Pasay and Muntinlupa City on Monday.
Speaking with the PISTON National Coordinator, Cerilo Latoreno, he explained that PISTON is protesting against the NCAP, including the fine imposed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
With the little money that jeepney drivers earn, Latoreno questioned where they would get the money for the fines for the violations committed.
The group would also protest against the junking of the oil deregulation law and the objections to the mandatory franchise consolidation under the Public Transport Modernization Program.
Drivers began the noise barrage along the Service Road at Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City today, and will go to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) this afternoon, to condemn DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon’s promises last Holy Week.
The protest would continue until June 5, spanning to other cities like Caloocan, Pasig, and the DOTr office. Additionally, this also includes Baguio, Cebu, Iloilo, and Bacolod.
Despite this, they clarified that drivers would not go on strike and would continue to work even on the said days.
During the noise barrage, the group highlighted that their livelihoods are at stake. They said their families would starve and struggle to get by if no allowance or budget is given for the various tests needed.

Last week, the MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando “Don” Artes said in an interview with DZRH that they will launch a new application to help motorists monitor their traffic violations under NCAP.
This comes after its implementation last May 26, after the Supreme Court (SC) lifted the temporary restraining order (TRO) on May 20.
