Tortang Talong ranks 2nd on TasteAtlas’ top 100 egg dishes in the world

A new Pinoy staple food was recognized by TasteAtlas as one of the best egg dishes in the world. The eggciting dish ranked second by the gastronomic catalogue for the top 100 egg dishes in the world is the Tortang Talong!

“Tortang Talong is a simple Filipino dish made with a combination of roasted eggplants and lightly beaten eggs,” TasteAtlas wrote.

Only two ingredients are needed to make the beloved Filipino dish, but it received a 4.4 rating out of 5.

"Whole eggplants are dipped into the egg mixture and are then shortly pan-fried until the entire dish starts to resemble a crispy omelet,” it wrote.

TasteAtlas described it as a versatile delicacy that can easily be adapted with additional ingredients like ground meat and vegetables. The Tortang Talong is traditionally served with steamed rice and tomato or banana ketchup.

“Inexpensive and quickly prepared, tortang talong can be enjoyed at any time of day as a hearty breakfast, lunch, or dinner,” TasteAtlas said.

The catalogue recommends places like Sarsa Kitchen + Bar, La Preciosa Restaurant, LZM Restaurant, Fely J’s Restaurant, and the 8065 Bagnet Restaurant for the best-served Tortang Talong.

This year, the Ajitsuke Tamago (Ramen Egg) from Japan emerged as TasteAtlas' top egg dish.

Meanwhile, two dishes from Greece, the Staka Me Ayga and Strapatsada, clinched the third and fourth spot, respectively.

In 2024, the Tortang Talong placed fifth place in the Gastronomic Catalogue’s Top 100 list of Filipino Food.
