Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa on Friday tapped public health expert Dr. Tony Leachon as the department’s Special Adviser for Non-Communicable Diseases.
The DOH announced Leachon's appointment by posting photos of Leachon shaking hands with Herbosa.
“The Secretary of Health highlighted that the appointment of Dr. Leachon as a special adviser would be beneficial to the Filipino people as he has exemplary knowledge and experience in the medical field,” the health department said.
Leachon was the former special adviser to the National Task Force on COVID-19 and had worked with Herbosa before.
He was also the past president of the UST Medical Alumni Association (USTMAA) in 2016, the Philippine College of Physicians in 2014, and the Manila Doctors Hospital Medical Staff Association from 2016 to 2018.
Leachon was also appointed as DOH’s One Peso Consultant for noncommunicable diseases in 2012.
He is presently serving the Manila Doctors’ Hospital as an internist and cardiologist.
“Together, we continue to move steadfastly in further realizing the Universal Healthcare. With the aid of Dr. Leachon, we will ensure that Bawat Pilipino, ramdam ang kalusugan dahil sa Healthy Pilipinas, bawat buhay mahalaga,” Herbosa said as quoted by the DOH.
