Residents of Tondo, Manila blocked a black van and nabbed its driver after a getaway attempt when he ran over a child on Wednesday, June 19.
The victim, three-year-old Khurt Jan Castillo, was rushed to Ospital ng Tondo but died.
According to Castillo's father, the toddler was with his grandmother when the incident happened.
“Ang nangyari, tinaguan niya ‘yung lola niya, tumakbo siya pauwi. Ayun ‘yung time na nabangga siya,” he said.
("What happened was he hid from his grandmother, he ran home. That's the time he was run over.")
Police reports show that Castillo was crossing Solis Street, corner Bugallon Street at 10:50 AM when the van hit him.
The driver of the van, plate number PLI 520, was brought by witnesses to the barangay hall. He was identified by Manila police as Garvin Baldesimo.
Baldesimo was placed under custody and charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
