Parishes in Tondo and Pandacan are set for the celebration of the Feast of Señor Santo Niño on January 18, church officials confirmed.
The Minor Basilica and Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Niño de Tondo and the Sto. Niño de Pandacan Parish has finalized preparations for the annual religious event. DZRH Val Gonzales reported.
A procession of a replica of the Señor Santo Niño began on Wednesday across various parts of Manila, with devotees carrying images of the Child Jesus, some accompanied by decorated carriages or carosas, as part of the pre-feast activities.
In Tondo, the Lakbayaw Festival 2026 will be held on Saturday at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to draw thousands of devotees. Church officials said a total of 33 masses will be celebrated as part of the feast activities.
The image of the Señor Santo Niño de Tondo is regarded as the second-oldest Santo Niño image in the Philippines, brought by Augustinian priests in 1572. The Señor Santo Niño de Cebu remains recognized as the oldest image in the country.
Meanwhile, the Manila Police District (MPD) assured the public that a comprehensive security plan is in place to ensure order and the safety of devotees during the festivities.
