Tomato prices rose up to Php 180 per kilo based on the monitoring of the Department of Agriculture.
DA Asec. Arnel De Mesa explained on Thursday, July 4, that Typhoon Aghon and the subsequent rains delayed the harvest particularly in the Southern Luzon area.
De Mesa, however, provided assurance that tomato prices will return to normal after one to two weeks.
"Based doon sa pakikipag-usap namin sa mga nagtatanim ng kamatis, babalik ulit yung harvest in one week to two weeks time," De Mesa said during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.

De Mesa said that tomato prices normally range between Php 80 to Php 100 per kilo.
"Kapag tag-araw talaga, bumababa ng husto yung presyo ng kamatis. Kapag ganitong tag-ulan, talagang hindi ganoon kadami yung harvest," De Mesa remarked.
(During the dry season, the price of tomato goes down. During the rainy season, the harvest is not that much)
