TNT snags first PBA Governors Cup title

TNT Tropang Giga emerged as the champions of the 2023 PBA Governors' Cup.

Tropang Giga defeated Brgy. Ginebra, 97-93, on Friday, April 21, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City to put an end to the best-of-seven finals series.

Finals Most Valuable Player Mikey Williams scored 38 points while Best Import of the Conference Rondae Hollis-Jefferson finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds for TNT to win the first-ever Governors' Cup title of the team.

Tropang Giga trailed behind by 11 points at most during the first half of the match.

Back-to-back baskets by Hollis-Jefferson and JP Erram allowed TNT to snatch the lead, 52-51, in the third quarter.

In the final two minutes, the Gin Kings managed to regain the advantage, 93-92, but a three-point basket by Williams brought the lead back to the Tropang Giga.

Justin Brownlee, who fell ill during the previous match due to severe food poisoning, registered 29 points and 12 rebounds to lead Ginebra in Game Six.

Jamie Malonzo also chipped in 21 points and Scottie Thompson added 20 points for the Gin Kings.
