Timor Leste’s handover of dismissed House member Arnolfo Teves Jr. will be carried out at the soonest possible time as its President wishes to be rid of the fugitive, relayed the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Saturday.
“Yesterday actually lumabas ang balita na ang President ng Timor-Leste mismo si (Yesterday actually, the news came out that the President of Timor Leste himself) José Ramos-Horta said it will not be too long before Teves is sent back to the Philippines,” DOJ Spokesperson Mico Clavano IV said in a news forum.
“I don’t think that the president of Timor-Leste wants him to stay any longer,” he added.
Teves’ extradition is set to follow Timor Leste’s first papal visit since its independence, on September 9 through 11.
“This is a whole-of-government approach that we are doing in the case of former Congressman Teves. And we hope to execute everything or operation right after the papal visit,” Clavano said.
