The Philippines now has 20 bets for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced on Tuesday, June 25, that swimmers Kayla Sanchez and Harold Hatch will compete in the women’s 100 meter freestyle, and men's 100 meter butterfly events, respectively, in the Paris Games.
POC also confirmed that Filipina judoka Kiyomi Watanabe will make her second appearance in the Olympics after qualifying through the continental quota in the women's -63kg event.
"Each day, as the countdown to the Olympics dwindles, the morale goes higher and higher," POC president Rep. Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino said in a statement.
Tolentino expects that the 2024 Olympics roster of the Philippines will continue to grow in the upcoming days as POC waits for confirmation from the International Golf Federation on whether Filipina golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina earned spots in the Paris Games.
The POC chief also waits for an official announcement from World Athletics on who will join Filipino pole-vaulter EJ Obiena, who currently ranks second in the men's world rankings, in the Paris Games.
Tolentino along with 15 Filipino athletes arrived in Metz, France on Sunday, June 23, where they will participate in a training camp to prepare themselves for the Paris Games.
Other Olympic bets will also fly to Metz in the upcoming days to join the training camp prior the formal opening of the Paris Olympics on July 26.
