Quezon City – The White Room Gallery has opened its doors for its first art exhibition for 2024. The new group art exhibition is titled, “ScreenScapes,” and was launched on January 10, 2024, at SEAMEO INNOTECH in Diliman, Quezon City.
ScreenScapes is the Gallery’s third exhibition, following UGMA: Ugnayan ng Sining at Teknolohiya (July 2023) and Don We Now Our Gay Apparel (October 2023). The current presentation revolves around emphasizing the capabilities and varying methods of artistic expression within the entertainment industry.
The White Room Gallery aims to celebrate the creativity and mastery of the participating artists as their pieces transcends the confines of screens and stages, and into tangible artistic expression contained within the Gallery.
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on January 10, 2024 to commemorate the opening of the latest exhibition. Guests were treated to an extraordinary ensemble of art pieces in a diverse medium including mixed-media paintings, sculptures, photography and video installation arts.
Prominent personalities also attended the opening ceremony and congratulated the artists and the Gallery for their latest exhibition. INNOTECH Center Director and former Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones welcomed the guests in the Center and thanked them for their continued support and patronage to the arts.
Prof. Briones also reiterated her commitment to the integration of technology and the arts, and the intersection of arts and education to promote a holistic environment for learners. “Art cannot be separated from technology. We cannot create technical objects without considering that we are human beings as well,” she shared in her speech.
Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. also graced the guests with his presence during the opening of ScreenScapes. He recognized Prof. Briones and National Artist Ricky Lee, who also attended as a guest of honor. Senator Revilla extended his appreciation and gratitude to the White Room
Gallery, and how he is overjoyed that it became a platform for artists to showcase their talent. “I am happy to learn that there is a platform where great and talented artists from show business can showcase their other talents,” he stated during the opening ceremony for ScreenScapes. “This is a testament that Filipino artists are multifaceted and will always strive in different media.”
Prof. Ruben Defeo, the artistic curator of the White Room Gallery provided an overview behind the chosen title of this latest exhibition. “ScreenScapes is derived from two different words. ‘Screen’ pertains to where the artists came from [the show business], and ‘scapes’ pertains to the medium of artistry for visual arts,” he shared.
Among the participating artists are esteemed figures in the Philippine entertainment industry, including Nina Ricci Alagao-Flores, Leandro Baldemor, Reb Belleza, Shamaine Buencamino, John Lloyd Cruz, Lotlot De Leon, John Paul Duray, Ernie Garcia, Baron Geisler, Louie Ignacio, Jeanette Kamphuis, Maria Isabel Lopez, Jao Mapa, Sandino Martin, Melissa Mendez, Elizabeth Oropesa, Evangeline Pascual, Epy Quizon, Jet Rai and Kris Villanueva.
Located at SEAMEO INNOTECH’s International House in Diliman, Quezon City, the White Room Gallery is free and open to public viewing every Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. “ScreenScapes” will be on display until February 17, 2024.
