On Thursday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary Timothy John Batan, announced at Build Better More Infrastructure Forum, their pursuit in building cable cars for the MRT-4 project linked to Taytay and Antipolo, Rizal.
Held at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, the project would be in accordance to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive on pursuing mixed transportation solutions for the National Capital Region (NCR).
The pre-feasibility study was completed during the first half of the year, progressing to a detailed feasiblity in the coming months. It was funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
According to Undersecretary Batan, the project complements the proposed route connected from Ortigas to Taytay, Rizal. Commuters would not only experience ease and comfort with their travels, but it also aids with the city's tourism. From the station in Taytay, the cable car would then connect to Antipolo City.
“One of the best applications of a cable car technology is in a mountainous terrain—very useful for that. The ADB is supporting us in MRT-4, and as part of the ADB’s support for the MRT-4, they funded a pre-feasibility study for our urban cable car project connecting MRT-4 in Taytay up to Antipolo,” DOTr Undersecretary Batan stated.
Officials also confirmed the cable car's construction in Baguio City, to be locally funded by the city government.
