A taxi driver from Iloilo earned praise from the public after returning a passenger’s bag containing P2.4 million in cash.

In a Facebook post, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, along with the Ilonggo community, commended taxi driver Anthony Aguirre for his honest deed. Aguirre returned a backpack that had been left behind by one of his passengers.

According to reports, Aguirre was already home when his operator called and asked if a bag had been left in his taxi. Upon checking the passenger side of the vehicle, Aguirre found a bag under the seat. Instead of keeping it, he immediately brought the bag to the nearest police station.

It was later revealed that the bag belonged to a man named Rudy from Palawan, who had been traveling with his wife and grandchildren when the backpack was accidentally left behind.

Aguirre, a resident of Barangay Amparo in Pavia, Iloilo, is a father of two—one a graduating social work student at Central Philippine University and the other a high school student.

In recognition of his commendable act, Aguirre was declared the "Adopted Son of Iloilo City."

Mayor Treñas emphasized that Aguirre’s honesty and hard work serve as an inspiration to others, highlighting the city’s efforts to make Iloilo a safe and reliable place for both residents and visitors.
