On Monday, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual stressed the role of the Tatak Pinoy law (Republic Act 11981) in propelling the Philippines into new heights when it comes to local manufacturing and export.
He said that the initiative would foster the creation of higher-paying jobs for Filipinos and thereby increase economic growth. This would also benefit the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), noting its existing weak performance compared to other neighboring countries.
With the existence of the policy, local manufacturers would be given opportunities to earn from their own products. It also incentivizes homegrown innovation, as it seeks to push local goods into the forefront of exporting.
In the previous years, the country has greatly relied on imported goods from other nations. But, with the mandate of the said law, locally made products would now have advantage in government procurement over imported products.
“The Tatak Pinoy initiative is also crucial to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s industrial policy, which seeks to propel Philippine enterprises toward producing diverse, sophisticated, high-quality products and services,” Pascual stated.
