Taal Volcano released a 900-meter plume late Friday night following a phreatic eruption, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The eruption, which originated from the Main Crater of Taal Volcano Island, occurred at 11:51 p.m. and was accompanied by a three-minute volcanic tremor.

PHIVOLCS explained that phreatic eruptions are steam-driven explosions caused by the heating of water beneath the ground or on the surface by magma, lava, hot rocks, or newly deposited volcanic materials.
