A majority or 64% of households in the Philippines have reported that their garbage is collected by waste management trucks, according to data from the Social Weather Survey,

In contrast, 27% of households opt for disposing of their waste by means of burning it.

Further, the survey revealed that a smaller percentage, specifically 9%, resort to burning their garbage in holes dug in the ground, while 8% choose to dump their waste in open pits without incinerating it.

Additionally, 4% of households adopt alternative methods such as composting, feeding the waste to animals, or even discarding it into rivers.

When it comes to segregating waste, 61% of households demonstrate a frequent practice of separating biodegradable waste from non-biodegradable materials.

In terms of the frequency of waste segregation, the survey shows that 44% of households consistently engage in this practice, while 17% do it often.

On the other hand, 20% of households segregate waste only occasionally, and the remaining 20% never engage in waste segregation at all.

The survey, conducted from March 26th to 29th, gathered responses from 1,200 heads of Filipino households across the nation.

The participants were asked the following question:

"Paano niyo po itinatapon ang inyong basura? (Kinukuha ng trak ng basura, Tinatapon sa isang hukay (hindi sinusunog), Ginagawang abono (pakatapos ginamit na pataba), Binabaon, Pinapakain sa hayon, Iba pa)"

"Hihinihiwalay po ba ninyo ang lagayan ng mnga basura ninyong nabubulok sa hindi nabubulok nang (Palagi, Madalas, Paminsan-minsan, Hindi kailanman)?"
