Seven percent of Filipino household have family members who are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) currently employed abroad, the survey from Social Weather Station revealed.
Among the adult population in the country, 4% are currently actively seeking job opportunities abroad, while an additional 13% have expressed a desire to relocate to another country.
Out of all the households with OFWs currently employed abroad, a significant majority of 74% stated that their family members frequently send or provide financial support, while 10% mentioned it happens occasionally.
In contrast, 8% reported rare instances, and the remaining percentage did not receive any financial assistance.
In terms of the aspirations of those wishing to work abroad, the survey revealed that out of the 4% of adults aiming for overseas employment, 14% expressed a preference for Japan, followed by 13% for Canada, 11% each for Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Australia, and finally 9% for the United States.
The survey, which was carried out from March 26th to 29th, obtained responses from 1,200 heads of households located throughout the country.
