Eight out of 10 Filipinos are in favor of reverting the summer break of students to the months of April and May, a commissioned Pulse Asia Research Inc. released on Tuesday showed.
The survey, commissioned by Senator Sherwin 'Win' Gatchalian, indicated that 80 percent of Filipinos said that they agree to return to the old academic school calendar wherein classes start in June and end by April.
Most of the affirmation came from respondents in the Visayas region with 90 percent, followed by Mindanao with 86 percent, National Capital Region (NCR) with 81 percent, and Luzon with 73 percent.
On the other hand, there are only 8 percent disagreed with the recommendation to bring back the April and May summer break.
Many of those who disagreed are respondents from Luzon with 11 percent.
Meanwhile, about 11 percent are uncertain or cannot say if they agree or disagree with the plans.
In a statement, Gatchalian, who sits as the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, said the survey results clearly demonstrate the sentiments of students.
The Department of Education (DepEd) earlier said that the return of the old school calendar may take five to four years.
