The Supreme Court (SC) has announced an investigation into the bogus report that it had issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) opposing the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, and enforce penalties on individuals who spread the falsehood.

SC Spokesperson Camille Ting said in a statement that the high court will also look into reports that it received a petition for incumbent President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s resignation, and called the circulation of such news “acts of disinformation.”

“These acts of disinformation, including previous false reports on March 11, 2025, alleging that the SC issued a TRO, will be submitted for appropriate action,” she said.

“The SC will investigate these incidents and take necessary measures, including the imposition of proper sanctions on those responsible,” she added.

On the day of Duterte’s arrest, March 11, he and Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa filed a petition before the SC seeking his release from confinement and requesting the issuance of a TRO to block the government’s cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Social media posts alleging the court had released a TRO emerged that evening, ahead of Duterte’s flight to The Hague, Netherlands.
