Just days after owning the runway at the “Body of Work” fashion show, Sunshine Cruz decided to open up after her autoimmune diagnosis.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, March 23, the actress and singer reflected on the roller coaster journey she went through these past months.

“I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis, which has made building muscle a real struggle. But I’m so thankful for the strength I’ve found,” she captioned her post.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a type of chronic autoimmune disorder which can result in weakness of the skeletal muscles. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, this affects the voluntary muscles of the body, especially those responsible for controlling the eyes, mouth, throat, and limbs. Although it can strike anyone at any age, the U.S. health institution noted that it is more frequently seen in young women from ages 20 to 30, and men aged 50 and older.

Despite this, Cruz sizzled on the runway with a fiery-red lace underwear set that’s paired with the same shade of fishnet stockings and black high heels.

“Walking for Bench was a powerful reminder of what's possible even when things are tough. To all my fellow moms and Gen Xers, never give up on your dreams,” she said, expressing her gratitude for the strength she found.

Cruz walked the “Body of Work” showcase on Friday, March 21, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, alongside her daughter, Angelina.
