An architecture student was found dead inside her rented apartment in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on the morning of Friday, June 30.
A police report said the body of the incoming fifth-year student Eden Joy Villacente, 21, was discovered inside her rented room in Barangay 7 on Friday morning after residents complained of a foul smell. When discovered, the victim's naked body was already in a decomposing state.
Vilalcente's neighbors said they last saw her alive on Wednesday.
" It is possible that the victim was raped. However, we are still waiting for the result of the examination of the Scene of the Crime Operatives. We are also reviewing footage of closed-circuit television cameras," Occidental Mindoro police director Col. Jun Dexter Danao said.
DOJ orders probe
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin 'Boying' Remulla said he directed the National Bureau of Investigation to open a probe on the brutal killing of the architecture student.
A PHP 459,000 reward has been raised for any information that would lead to the arrest of her killer or killers.
The reward was raised by CareFM broadcaster Mariboy Ysibido on his program “Pag-Usapan Natin.”
Contributing to the fund were Rep. Odie Tarriela, who committed PHP 100,000; Gov. Eduardo Gadiano, PHP 100,000; Vice Gov. Diana Tayag, PHP 100,000; the municipality of San Jose, PHP 100,000; Care FM, PHP 25,000; Board Member Alex Robles del Valle, PHP 25,000; and Barangay Bagong Sikat Captain Ismael Cacayurin, PHP 5,000; and anonymous sources, PHP 4,000.
