Sorsogon experienced continuous rains for almost 27 hours when Severe Tropical Storm Kristine hit the province.

Sorsogon Gov. Jose Edwin Hamor said on Thursday, October 24, that the disaster risk reduction and management office of the province estimate that STS Kristine dumped around six months worth of rain.

"Ang almost six months na dapat iniulan, binira lang ng almost 27 hours," Hamor said during DZRH's Operation Tulong.

While Sorsogon has many waterways, Hamor said that the province still experienced floods due to the rains coinciding with the water rising from the China Sea.

However, Hamor assured that the floods only lasted for an hour or two hours at most.

"Sumabay yung high tide kaya naapektuhan yung ibang lugar, binaha," the governor explained.

Due to the impact of STS Kristine, the province of Sorsogon decided to cancel the remaining activities of the Kasanggayahan Festival 2024.

"Hindi naman pwede na nasa ganitong pangyayari tapos itutuloy natin ang Kasanggayahan Festival. Respeto doon sa mga nasalanta," Hamor said.

The local chief executive provided assurance that Sorsogon no longer experiences rain, and all evacuees have returned to their homes as of Thursday.
