Severe Tropical Storm Kristine has caused significantly heavier rainfall in Daet, Camarines Norte, compared to Typhoon Ondoy, according to PAGASA.
In its latest forecast during the Dos Por Dos program on Friday, Dan Villamil of DOST-PAGASA reported that Kristine dumped 528.5 mm of rain in Daet within 24 hours on October 22.
This amount surpasses the 400 mm of rainfall recorded during Typhoon Ondoy in 2009, which led to widespread flooding in Metro Manila and surrounding areas.
"Kung ikukumpara natin iyon sa station normal, ito yung usual rainfall na natatanggap ng estasyon ng Daet sa isang buwan na 489.6 mm. Kung ikukumpara po natin, bumagsak yung more than one month na dapat na pag-ulan ng estasyon within the period of 24 hours," Villamil explained.
As of the latest records, Kristine's rainfall is the highest ever recorded in Daet, Camarines Norte. It is worth noting that the Bicol Region was among the most affected areas in the country due to Kristine's onslaught.
Meanwhile, Villamil mentioned that rainfall is now primarily concentrated on the western side of Luzon.
"Mababawasan na yung pag-ulan, pero may pagbugso pa rin ng hangin dahil may kalawakan yung radius nitong bagyong Kristine," he said.
"Generally improving weather conditions over the weekend; maari nang masikatan ng haring araw ang Western Visayas," he added.
