The Mindanao Independent Press Council (MIPC) seeks "strong action" from the government to resolve the killings of media personnel in the region.

MIPC president Edith Caduaya made the call after gunmen barged in the home studio of broadcaster Juan Jumalon, also known as DJ Johnny Walker, on Sunday, November 5, in Misamis Occidental and killed the radio personality.

Interviewed during DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas on Monday, November 6, Caduaya said that the MIPC does not feel the protection promised by the government to media practitioners.

"We deserve more than comdemnation. We deserve a strong action from the government," she said

"Ano ba state? Are you with us when you said you are protecting journalists? Ano ba yung protection," Caduaya questioned.

The MIPC president expressed concern that the investigation on the murder of Jumalon will also hit a dead end, and the suspects will remain on the loose even if they have been identified.

"Ano ito part na naman ng statistics," Caudaya stressed.

The Philippine National Police has already released a composite sketch of one of the suspects involved in the murder of Jumalon in the middle of the live-stream of his radio program.

The sketch described the suspect as around 5'5 to 5'6 tall, has brown complexion, and wearing a red har, a green shirt, and black shorts when the crime happened.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security said a Php 100,000 reward will be given to an individual who can provide information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
