American television host Steve Harvey will no longer be coming back to host the upcoming Miss Universe.

Harvey went viral for his Miss Universe 2015 moment as he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as the winner instead of Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.

In an exclusive interview with Variety, MUO CEO Amy Emmerich said the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) has ended its 5-year deal with the famous host alongside their contract with Fox.

She also disclosed that they already have a new host, a female, that will soon be announced.

“My goal was really to make sure we led with a female lens this next go-around… We should hopefully have that to talk about soon… It was a rare opportunity to be able to kind of restart in a whole new place.” Emmerich stated.

The said ‘restart’ also included their 1-year deal with Roku Channel as the new official home for Miss Universe.

“The best thing that can happen for this brand is go to a place that’s also starting anew. Right away WME suggested Roku. I’m familiar with [Roku originals head] David [Eilenberg] from the past and he had just joined there. From the first conversation, you kind of knew it was the place to be. Roku just always had a personality. They really are consistent with who they are, even with the original programming to come. And Miss Universe needed to take some chances," she explained.

Emmerich also indicated that they both agreed to focus on transparency by showing people behind the scenes of the pageant.

A massive change in the organization happened this year after it was purchased by Thailand-based JKN Global Group PCL last October. The said company is owned by CEO Anne Jukapong Jakrajutatip, the first woman to own MUO.

The 71st Miss Universe will be held in New Orleans on January 14, 2023, at 7 p.m. ET with Celeste Cortesi as Philippine’s representative.
