The Municpality of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur have been placed under state of calamity "due to the widespread destruction caused by 7.4 magnitude earthquake" that hit last Saturday, Dec. 2.
The state of calamity declaration was enclosed in the Resolution No. GC-621 released by Hinatuan local government unit (LGU) on its official Facebook page on Monday, Dec. 4.
Under Resolution No. GC-621, the Sangguniang Bayan cited that the strong earthquake "left massive damages on public infrastructures such as government buildings and facilities, school buildings, residential buildings / private houses, water system, and livelihoods in several barangays of the municipality."
According to the Sangguniang Bayan, the declaration of state of calamity "will empower the municipal government to address the immediate needs of the community and lay the groundwork for a comprehensive recovery."
Based on National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) situational report released Dec. 5, the magnitude 7.4 quake has affected a total of 455 families or 1,874 individuals in Northern Mindanao and Davao Region.
Of the total, 28 individuals or 8 families are staying in an evacuation center in Davao Region.
One individual perished and 12 sustained injuries amidst the strong quake. But NDRRMC said the data will be up for validation.
Around 173 houses were damaged — 21 were totally destroyed and 152 were partially destroyed.
As of Tuesday morning, the state seismologist recorded a total of 2,400 aftershocks.
