ST Mawar likely to hit Batanes, Babuyan Islands - PAGASA
by Kristan Carag26 May 2023

Super Typhoon Mawar will likely hit the province of Batanes, and the Babuyan Group of Islands, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA weather forecaster Anna Clauren-Jorda said on Friday, May 26, that ST Mawar moves westward with a speed of 15 kilometers per hour.

Clauren-Jorda warned that Northern Luzon, Cagayan Valley, and some parts of the Cordillera Administrative Region will also feel the impact of ST Mawar, which will receive the local name Betty when it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

She said that PAGASA could raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 in affected areas, particularly Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

The weather specialist said that ST Mawar would bring rains to Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, MIMAROPA, Mindoro provinces, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

PAGASA predicts that ST Mawar will enter PAR either on the evening of Friday, May 26, or the morning of Saturday, May 27.
