Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto on Monday said the face-to-face classes in the city are going "very smooth."

According to Sotto, two schools from the city are participating in the pilot run of in-person classes, namely Pasig Elementary School for grades one and two, as well as Ugong Pasig National High School for senior high school students.

"Kaninang umaga, kasama ko po si DepEd (Department of Education Asec (Malcolm) Garma and tinignan po namin yung pilot ng Pasig Elementary School. Meron po kaming 27 students doon at naging very smooth po," Sotto said in an interview with DZRH.

According to the Pasig mayor, the city is targeting more schools to reopen face-to-face classes by January.

"Kung pwede nga po, lahat kung maaaprubahan din ng Department of Education," Sotto said.

(If possible, all schools if approved by the Department of Education.)

"Basta ang importante ngayon, may pilot tayo. Tinitignan natin kung meron bang pagkukulang, sapat na ba ang paghahanda natin, at kung sapat na, ay pwede na nating i-scale up ito," he added.

(What is important is we are running the pilot. We will see there if there are gaps if our preparations are enough, and if they are enough, then maybe we can scale it up.)

The mayor stressed the importance of face-to-face classes, saying that it is really different from distance learning.

"Kailangan na po talaga. Iba talaga yung face-to-face learning, kumpara sa distance o blended," he said.

(It is really needed. Face-to-face learning is really different compared to distance or blended.)

Meanwhile, Sotto said the city is also distributing laptops and connectivity allowance to students who have yet to receive theirs.

"Bukod dun tablet or laptop ng mga mag-aaral, meron din po silang P500 per month na connectivity allowance," he said.

(Aside from tablets or laptops of students, they are also receiving P500 per month for connectivity allowance.)
