Senate President Vicente Sotto III conceded on Tuesday his vice presidential bid in the 2022 election.

"The people have made their choice. I accept the will of the people," said Sotto in a statement.

"We presented an alternative for a better system in governance and politics but the electorate had their minds conditioned elsewhere," he added.

According to Sotto, he is glad that he "did not yield to any political pressure" to change his principles and kept his integrity intact.

"Our word of honor and loyalty are of far greater importance than an election win," he said.

He made these remarks after placing third in the partial and unofficial tally for the vice presidential race, behind Davao Mayor Sara Duterte and Senator Francis Pangilinan.

"Godspeed to our new President and Vice President," Sotto said.

Sotto's running-mate, Senator Panfilo Lacson, bared his plans after election day, but it remains unclear if he is conceding to presidential frontrunner Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
