President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. administered newly appointed Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, in his oath-taking on Friday.
During Angara’s oath of office at the Malacañang Palace, Marcos expressed optimism on his new position. The latter recalled their discussions before taking his oath, stating that Angara is knowledgeable on what’s needed by the department, and is capable of getting things done.
Marcos welcomed Angara with confidence as the new cabinet member after the oath-taking.
Meanwhile, Angara expressed his gratitude to Marcos for entrusting him to lead a “very important department”. He added that he is looking forward to working closely with him in the coming days and months to initiate reforms in the educational system, for the benefit of young learners.
“Mr. President, I know how much you value education, as much as every Filipino family does,” he said.
He was appointed by Marcos to lead DepEd shortly after former Education Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte tendered her resignation from the Cabinet post last June. The post was formally turned over to Angara on Thursday during a ceremony at the DepEd Complex in Pasig City.
