The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will impose a gun ban and will deploy more than 20,000 police officers for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s second State of the Nation Address (SONA) in July.
In a statement on Monday, NCRPO Chief Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo said a total of 22,081 cops would be stationed near the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, where the President will deliver his SONA, as well as 31 border control locations throughout Metro Manila.
The NCRPO would also prohibit permits to carry weapons outside of Metro Manila houses beginning at 12:01 a.m. from July 24 to midnight on July 25.
Aside from the over 22,081 officers, the NCRPO stated that a "strike force" would be ready to deliver extra force if needed during the Sona.
This strike force will be made up of 4,405 officers from the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Reactionary Standby Support Force and 500 volunteers.
The NCRPO will provide 17,121 of the 22,081 police officers, while the other 4,460 will come from various government organizations, including PNP regional support units.
They would also mobilize its Civil Disturbance Management contingents if demonstrators held rallies in forbidden areas in order to guarantee public safety.
