Several lawmakers asserted that it is the duty of the House of Representatives to accept any impeachment complaint that may be filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, even if President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. already expressed opposition or spoken out against it.
In an exclusive interview with Isyung Pambayan on Sunday, House Deputy Majority Leader and Iloilo 1st District Representative Janette Garin stated that it is the job of the House to examine whether the complaints have form and substance, and if they do, they will be brought before and heard by the House committees.
However, according to Garin, President Marcos' statement opposing any impeachment complaint is significant, as he considers it unimportant. She emphasized that this is a strong message to the House not to give it further attention.
"Syempre the President's words [ay] may timbang kasi pwede kasi 'yan ang ipakiusap is 'huwag niyo na munang tignan kung nagkasala ba o hindi, ang tignan na lang natin is to promote unity,' kasi syempre magkaibigan, magkasama, at matagal silang nagkasama sa kampanya," said Garin.
Meanwhile, on the part of GP Partylist Rep. GP Padiernos, he stated that he has not heard any directive from the leadership of the House supporting any impeachment complaint against the Vice President.
In the program Usapang Galing sa Puso, Padiernos stated that President Marcos' position should be respected and that they should not jump to conclusions as there are no complaints at the moment.
He also emphasized that it’s better to refrain from pursuing it further, especially with the Christmas season approaching.
