Alleged cult Socorro Bayanihan Services, Inc. (SBSI) in Surigao del Norte has released a Christmas Station ID.
According to a Facebook post, SBSI's Christmas station ID for this year was entitled "Sinag ng Pasko," originally composed by SBSI Leader Jay Rence Quilario, also known as "Senior Agila."
The music video, according to SBSI, provides the "true essence of Christmas" despite their community's current challenges.
Shown in the video are the singers of Musica de Omega, a performing arts group connected to the Socorro Bayanihan Services.
"As a matter of interest, Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc. (SBSI) is suffering from the negative perception of the public, as they perceive the group Kulto sa Surigao. However, members of the organization hang onto a glimmer of hope as the teachings of Senior Agila have given them the confidence to believe that there is light even in the darkness," SBSI captioned on the music video post.
"And just like last year's Kanta sa Pasko, ALT's Christmas Song 2023 shows that despite obstacles, we can band together to make this festive season one to remember," it added.
Socorro Bayanihan Services is not formally a civic organization until different forms of abuse, such as arranged marriages, sexual violence, and financial extortion, are reported in the said community.
On September 29, a senate hearing was upheld and was led by Senator Riza Hontiveros and Senator Ronald Bato dela Rosa, attended by SBSI leaders.
Victims have shown and shared their experiences in their previous community.
SBSI President Quilario, Vice President Galanida, and members Janeth Ajoc and Karren Sanico were cited for contempt during the hearings for their responses to queries regarding whether child marriages are occurring within the group.
