The controversial Soccoro Cult in Surigao del Norte started during the time of President Rodrigo Duterte amid the "war on drugs" campaign, according to a Socorro Task Force Kapihan spokesperson.
In an exclusive interview with DZRH Dos Por Dos, Edelito Sangco, spokesperson of Socorro Task Force Kapihan, said that the cult was made to serve as a human shield as the Duterte administration pursued its fight against illegal drugs.
Behind Socorro Bayanihan Services, Inc. is Jey Rence Buyser Quilario, who was believed by its members to be the reincarnation of Sto. Niño's reason for calling him "Senior Agila."
"Ang kaniyang alleged business partner ay Municipal Circuit Trial Court judge ng Siargao na siyang napasama sa narcolist ni President Rodrigo Duterte," Sangco said.
"In fact, yung West na yun, nang siya'y natanggal na he was gunned down on November 1," he added.
Senator Riza Hontiveros earlier filed a resolution directing a Senate committee to conduct a probe in aid of legislation into the alleged sexual abuse, forced marriage, and other violent acts of the said cult group.
According to reports, Quilario is also collecting 50% of the money from the 4'Ps beneficiaries and pensioners.
Hontiveros, meanwhile, said in a separate radio interview that the first Senate hearing regarding the matter will be on Sept. 28.
