History is about to get overthrown, because a new HERstory lesson is in session!
GMG Productions is taking the Tony Award-winning SIX, the Musical to Manila, and will be running for a limited season this October at The Theatre at Solaire.
Broadway and West End’s crowning glory revolves around the six wives of Henry VIII, stepping out of the shadows and narrating their past heartbreaks presented in the style of a pop concert. In its 80-minute duration, the queens sing in sequence to reclaim their narratives.
Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the modern retelling resurrects the wives, offering them the voice that was once stripped away. Fit for the 21st Century lens of women empowerment; Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr are seen persevering and fierce.
Although most of it was spent engaging in catfights and competition over who went through the worst with Henry, the retelling comes from their own words—separate from the alterations done by men.
