The implementation of a single ticketing system (STS) is still under pilot testing, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), backtracking from their previous statement of its full implementation this year.
In a press briefing, MMDA chairperson Romado Artes said they are still fixing some issues in the areas where the single ticketing system is currently implemented.
STS is currently in effect in San Juan, Muntinlupa, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Paranaque, Manila, and Caloocan.
Earlier this year, Artes said the full implementation of the ticketing system will happen this year. However, when asked by reporters on the actual date, the MMDA chief only answered "soon."
The Metro Manila Council (MMC) formally approved in February this year the MMDA Resolution 23-02 which proposed the enforcement of a single ticketing system in NCR.
Under the single ticketing system, all cities and municipalities across NCR will have unified policies and penalties for 20 common traffic violations.
Among the traffic violations included disregarding traffic signs, illegal parking (attended and unattended), reckless driving, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle, overspeeding, illegal counterflow, number coding violations, and obstruction.
