Agriculture group Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) on Tuesday, Oct. 24, announced the possibility of a rice price increase to P50 per kilo in the coming weeks following the surge in the farmgate price of rice grains.
“Yung Isabela miller kasi bumili sa Pangasinan tsaka Nueva Ecija ng 27 pesos. Kung 27 pesos yan tapos dinala pa sa Isabela ibig sabihin yung puhunan nila nasa 28 more or less per kilo yan,” SINAG Chairman Rosendo So told DZRH in an interview.
“Tapos kung minill ito almost 44 pesos ang puhunan ng miller tapos ide-deliver sa Manila,” he added.
So underscored that the damaged crops in Isabela could dampen the government’s rice harvest target in December.
“Kaya sumulat tayo sa Presidente na magkaroon ng cap na 45 [pesos] para bumaba sana yung presyo ng palay at bumalik sa 25 pesos,” he said.
